356 km long pipeline from Bina to Panki Pipeline commissioned!
PUNE, December 29, 2021: A Maharatna status owned company, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), operates a Bina-Panki multi-product pipeline. The pipeline was constructed to increase product supply in northern Bihar, southern Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the pipeline project on Tuesday, 28 December, in Kanpur, UP. On this occasion, Yogi Adityanath, CM of UP; Anandiben Patel, Governor of UP; Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, joined.
BPCL constructed a 356 kilometer (283 km in UP and 73 km in MP), 18-inch diameter refined products pipeline with a 3.45 million metric tons per year capacity pipeline. This comes from Bina Refinery in Madhya Pradesh and terminates at Panki depot in Uttar Pradesh. The pipeline will cut carbon emissions in product transportation from Bihar to Panki by approximately 68%.
Moreover, the project also involves the construction of pipeline dispatch terminals at Bina and Panki, with tankage capacity increased from 30,400 KL to 167,200 KL, 11 SV stations, 1 intermediate station and a rail loading gantry.
The Bina-Panki multi-product pipeline project’s overall cost is Rs. 1,524 crores. Since the pipeline has a planned capacity of 3.5 million metric tons per year, it will meet the requirement for petroleum products from the northern states. It will transport Superior Kerosene Oil (SKO), Motor Spirit (MS) and High-Speed Diesel (HSD).
The pipeline is outfitted with a cutting-edge Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system that strengthens the supply of petrol and diesel in Aonla, Kanpur, Gonda, Lucknow, Baitalpur, Shahjahanpur, Muzaffarpur, and Kathgodam. From a centralized location, the SCADA system will enable effective and efficient pipeline control and management. To enhance pipeline safety and security, a negative pressure wave based leak detection system is also supplied, which is coupled with the SCADA network.
